Open Educational Resources (OER) in Higher Education

The self-study course (MOOC) offered free of charge by the TU Graz introduces the concept of Open Educational Resources for students and lecturers at universities. Open Educational Resources (OER for short) are educational materials that are freely accessible and can be edited, adapted, and shared without violating copyrights. This is possible because so-called "open licenses" or public domain materials are used.

Successful participation can be credited towards the NRW Certificate Professional Teaching Skills for the University in the subject area "Lehren und Lernen" (10 AE).

Accessible from May 6, 2024

Registration and organizational matters

The courses and workshops in higher education didactics run by the BZH cater to the needs of the University of Bonn teaching staff, including contract lecturers. Unless stated otherwise, the courses and workshops are also open to lecturers teaching at another member university of the network "Hochschuldidaktik NRW".

Workshops are held in German if not explicitly stated otherwise. In order to actively participate, German language skills on CEFR level C1 are strongly recommended. If you do not speak German on the recommended level and have questions on teaching and learning which you would like to ask or ideas on teaching and learning which you would like to discuss, please contact the BZH to make an appointment for an individual consultation.

Binding registration is performed online via our Confluence registration form. To do so, please log into Confluence with your Uni-ID (via BONNET or VPN) and fill out the form. Please also note any specific requirements listed in the workshop descriptions.

The course and workshop catalogue and the descriptions of the individual workshop or course is also available in Confluence.

Binding registration is performed online via our registration form for external participants. You will receive email confirmation shortly afterwards.

Please note: this mail is not generated automatically and can take up to three days to be issued.

Places on the courses and workshops are allocated chronologically. Full-time lecturers at the University of Bonn will be admitted immediately, capacity permitting. Other interested persons will be placed on the waiting list. Their applications will be considered three weeks before the start of the workshop or course, capacity permitting. Those admitted will receive confirmation.

A course or workshop will only take place if sufficient registrations are received. The BZH usually decides two weeks before the start of each workshop or course, whether it has attracted sufficient participants to proceed or if it has to be canceled.

Participation in all training provided by the BZH is currently available free-of-charge for both internal and external users

Please bear in mind that the training provided by the BZH is expensive to provide. Hence it was decided to establish a withdrawal procedure which provides participants with a high degree of flexibility and enables the BZH to maintain a waiting list for participation.

If you are unable to attend a course or workshop for which you have registered, please withdraw at least seven days before the start of the course or workshop:

  • University of Bonn teaching staff via the Confluence page,
  • Teaching staff from other institutions via email.

Those forced to withdraw at short notice should inform the BZH by email.

In cases of repeated non-participation without prior cancellation, the BZH reserves the right to exclude applicants from participation in further university didactics workshops or courses.

Please consult the Information on Data Collection and Processing for details on the collection, storage and use of your personal data and your rights as a user. By registering for a workshop or course using one of our forms, you give the Bonn Center for Higher Education your consent to the use, storage and transmission of your personal data to external trainers for organizational purposes as defined by the German Data Protection Act. art. 6 para. 1 a) GDPR. You can withdraw this consent at any time with effect for the future without the need to state reasons.
